Dating Anniversay

Friday, October 13th, 2006 was the first night Taylor and I met in person and went on a date. We had corresponded via MySpace, when it was still popular, as well as on the telephone, but hadn't met in person until the 13th.
For our first date, Taylor met me at Berschauer Phillips Construction, the company I used to work for and who Taylor still works for.
Right after I got off work, I freshened up in the ladies room. I remember telling one of the Accountants I worked with all about my upcoming date and how nervous I was! I waited outside in my car and talked to my sister on the phone until Taylor arrived. Taylor pulled up, and STILL harasses me to this very day for getting into his truck and continuing to talk on the phone for the first minute or so. BAD first impression I guess. :-)

My first impression was not only noticing his baldness beneath his baseball cap and KNOWING that he had a Mohawk underneath, but also noticing this "thing" attached to his steering wheel and thinking "Oh my goodness, he has to blow into that to drive his truck! Who IS this guy? He's hott, but who is this guy?!!" However, this didn't stop me....

We headed downtown Olympia to Old School Pizzeria, where we had great conversation, but boy was I nervous. I used close to 100 napkins, because the pizza is so deliciously greasy. Not only did I look like a freak due to my excessive napkin usage, but I also felt like I had a booger, so instead of stressing about it, I just asked Taylor "Do I have anything in my nose?" while lifting up my head so he could see right inside. (Yes I know my nose is already up-turned, but I wanted him to get a GOOD look) Taylor makes fun of me for asking, but always says that incident was a glimpse of the future of our relationship and how relaxed and open we are with each other.

He had mentioned during our dinner, that he had plans to meet up with some friends at a bar for a friends farewell party. Once I knew that, I felt like I shouldn't keep him and kept wondering if he just wanted to head off to his other engagements. Apparently he didn't want to rush off too quick. We headed up to the Capitol Grounds.

There we walked around and he showed me where he had worked, building some of the updates around Capitol Campus.  At one point, we were sitting on a picnic table that overlooks the lake, and I was so nervous that he was going to try to kiss me. I am not a first date kiss kind of girl, but was having the conversation with myself that maybe I could be THAT night. However, he was too much of a gentleman, and it didn't happen.

After our long walk  we headed back to his truck. He asked if I wanted to get some ice cream. He didn't know this about me, but I absolutely LOVE ice cream (and really anything with sugar). I was excited that he too liked ice cream. We went to Baskin Robbins, got our ice cream, planned to sit on the bed of his truck but it was too cold, so we went for a drive. He asked if I had ever gone down such and such road, and I hadn't, so we went that way. It seemed like we were getting really far away from any place I knew and was a little nervous. I tried to keep my cool. We eventually came to a road I recognized which was VERY close to work. The date was over. He took me back to the office to drop me off. To my surprise, he didn't just drop me, but asked to see my office! So I took him inside to show him. There was a photo in the foyer of the building of a company picnic that had Taylor as a little boy in it. We made small talk but eventually headed out.He gave me a hug and we went our separate ways.

Little did I know that exactly 3 years later, Taylor would propose, and 4 years later, I'd be married to the man I went on the date with who had a STEERING knob, not a 'blow and go'- who actually doesn't enjoy ice cream as much as I thought, and who makes me happier than I could have ever imagined possible.

Yesterday, our 4 year dating anniversary, before Taylor left for work, he came into the kitchen and handed me a beautiful bouquet of flowers and wished us a happy 4 year anniversary. He is truly my Prince Charming. I couldn't have dreamed for anyone more sweet and perfect.

This was our last year celebrating our "dating" anniversary, as we are excited to celebrate our wedding anniversary from now on. However, we had a "date night" that included a dinner, a movie and dessert right in the comfort of our own home. I can't wait to date my husband forEVER!
