November

Wow, where did November go? It seems like Halloween was just yesterday and here we are 21 days away from Christmas!!
November 15th- Crazy wind storm! We were at home watching a movie when we lost power! That was the first time we had lost power together, for a long period of time anyway. Fortunately Taylor had a rip roaring fire, so we were nice and toasty. Taylor thought we needed to go get ice to store all of our food from the fridge in coolers. I protested him leaving in the crazy weather, but once he said he was going, I wasn't going to stay home ALONE in the dark; not to mention, what if he didn't come back?!! So we went on an adventure to pick up some ice. There were trees down, the roads were completely dark and really no one was open. So we ventured all the way to Freddies. Once we finally made it home and transferred all of our food to coolers, it was close to midnight, so we went to bed. No ghost stories or games by candle light. Had we both known that our food would have been find for a couple of days as long as we didn't open the fridge or freezer, we may have played some games. Who knows.

Making Taylor's lunch by lantern light
We couldn't finish cleaning the kitchen after dinner because of the power outage, so I apologize for the messy kitchen shot. But had to show you my lunch making skills by lantern light.
November 16th: We did not get power back until mid-day so I planned to go into work only if I could shower and the power came back on. Taylor on the other hand had his last week of apprenticeship school, so he HAD to go. He left and I crawled back into bed. I woke up to the bed shaking, the dog barking, and the china clanking on the kitchen table!! We were having an earthquake!! At this point we still have power either....a crazy couple of days I tell yah.

November 19th: Taylor completed his Carpenter's Apprenticeship program!! He is officially a journeyman!
November 21st: Lots of SNOW!!!

It snowed Sunday all day, and it continued Monday and Tuesday. By Thursday the roads were quite a bit better, but Monday-Wednesday, they were treacherous. Taylor's job site closed down early Tuesday and they didn't return to work until Monday the 28th! He had a nice little vacation! The roads were really icy, but the scenery was beautiful. The pictures above are only from Sunday, but we had several inches by Wednesday. I should have taken more pics!

I took Wednesday off, to be home with Taylor, so we did some running around to get ready for Thanksgiving. I made a couple of pies and Taylor also made a couple of pies.

Thanksgiving Day: We got up and moving, Taylor finished up his pies (chocolate cream and Oreo cream) and we headed to my Grams' to surprise my family with an apple pie. We then headed to Taylor's Aunt Laura's to have dinner. This year was rather quiet as my father-in-law Bill was in Greece and Dominique and her family were with Chris' family. We ate lots, watched football, and visited with everyone. We hadn't seen a few members of the family since the wedding, so everyone was asking "How is married life?" or I was introduced as the newest member of the Johnston family. Being newlyweds is so much fun! We only have a few more months left to be considered newlyweds...I guess we better take advantage of it while we can!

Black Friday: We didn't venture out until 10:45am, and we were only venturing out for Christmas lights. We didn't get TOO good of a deal, as most of the deals ended at 11am. We did pick up a few for outside of the house. I really wanted to buy a bunch of decorations this year as we really don't have many, but I've decided to wait until next year- we'll see how much updating we can get done this year to ensure the decor matches the house a little better. Taylor did mass amounts of yard work while I cleaned the house. The weather had destroyed the yard- Taylor can't stand a messy yard. :-) (I'm thankful he likes yard work, cause I'm not a big fan)

This year, Black Friday was also Dominique's birthday! As a family we weren't planning to celebrate until Bill was home from Greece. (He was in Greece because Grandpa Johnston was on a cruise and became ill, so they dropped him off in Greece. Taylor's dad and uncle had to fly to Greece to collect him) Since Dom was unexpectedly in town, we had them over for game night and to have a mini celebration for Dom.

Turtle Pie: one of her favorites

Little did I know, that during our celebration with Dom and Chris Friday night, my baby sister was being proposed to by her boyfriend!!! Congratulations to Kaila and Thomas on your engagement! My sister will make a beautiful bride!

Saturday November 27th: We went and picked out our Christmas tree!! Taylor also hung some of our Christmas lights. We still haven't decorated it as Taylor had company over that evening, so the goal is to get it decorated this weekend.

Sunday, November 28th: we picked up our Christmas present to each other. We had already decided to not spend any money on each other this year for Christmas, but instead we wanted to pick a project for the house that we've wanted to do, and spend the money we would have spend on each other, on the project. The last week of November decided our project for us. Our washer crapped out! Fortunately our friend Trina had given us the old washer and dryer from her grandmother's house when we bought our house last year, but the set was very old. It served us well for this past year! Unfortunately we were not going to be able to fix the washer inexpensively. So Wednesday, when we were out, we picked out a set that we couldn't pick up until Sunday. They would have delivered them to us, but the wait would have been longer and we needed to do laundry! So Taylor and Eric went and picked them up for us. I've never owned a new washer and dryer before, so I'm really excited! Not exactly the project we were thinking for Christmas, but there will be other Christmases. I wanted front loaders, but since Taylor really does the most laundry and didn't want front loaders, we picked up a high efficiency, top loading washer, and a dryer for a FABULOUS price! Merry Christmas to us!

Monday, November 29th: We went back to work to finish out the last week of November. My Uncle Lloyd who took the pictures at our wedding, dropped off the disc of photos he took! I will hopefully have some posted soon, so stay tuned!
December is here and what a busy month we have ahead of us! I will try to post more often as to avoid ridiculously long posts. May all your hearts be filled with joy as the Christmas season is here!!!
